HHCA welcomes J.W. Wilkerson as Lower School and Middle School Physical Education Mentor and Varsity Baseball Head Coach.
A native of Bluffton, S.C., J.W. graduated from Bluffton High School where he was named in the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame before signing to play baseball at Toccoa Falls College (NAIA / NCCAA), in Northeast Georgia, playing outfield when the team was 2010 National Runner Up.
Following an injury, J.W. moved on to focus on his passion for academics and coaching. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from the University of South Carolina majoring in Physical Education and served as Vice President of the school’s Physical Education Program.
In his first coaching role, while still in school at USC, he coached at Ben Lippen School in Columbia, S.C. for three years. After graduation from USC, he was offered a position at Southwest Florida Christian Academy (SFCA) in Fort Myers, Florida, where he has coached for the last seven years.
J.W. helped build the SFCA baseball program, where 12 student-athletes in the last five years have signed to play baseball at the collegiate level. He was named the 2019 FACA District Coach of the Year and has been nominated to coach in the Southwest Florida senior all-star game three times. His team has made it to the district championship and state regionals for the last three years. His team has been ranked in the top 15 out of 80 AA teams in the state of Florida three times, and in the top 10 twice.
His experience in the classroom over the last six years has spaced Lower and Middle School P.E., Middle School Bible, and Weightlifting classes.
When asked about impact, J.W. says “The biggest accomplishment for me as a teacher and coach is the relationships I have made with my students, players, and school community. I am so grateful for what God has done for me and my family these last seven years. But now I am so excited to walk through this door that God opened for my family to return home. I am trusting God has a great plan for me at HHCA and I cannot wait to see how he uses me to impact his Kingdom.”
J.W.’s wife Lauren is also from Bluffton, and they have two kids Keagan (4) and Kollins (2).
We are thrilled to welcome J.W. and his family back home to Bluffton, and into the HHCA community.
