Coach Matt O'Shaughnessy comes to HHCA as a 4-year starter at Florida Gulf Coast University.
Matt Graduated as the program’s leader in minutes played (6206), games started (69) and games played (70), as well as in the top 10 in five other statistical categories. He finished his collegiate career with seven goals, one assist, and three game-winning goals, and contributed to 23 shutouts over a four-year career.
In addition, he landed the program its first Atlantic Sun Conference regular-season championship following a perfect 9-0 A-Sun record, outscoring opponents 26-2. Coach O'Shaughessy raised the program to the national level, ranking as high as No. 19 by Soccer America, and earned the 2010 FGCU Co-Defensive Player of the Year award as a two-time A-Sun All-Conference performer, including a first-team selection in 2010. As a three-time A-Sun All-Academic honoree, he became the program’s first four-year student-athlete.
In his high school career, Matt was named second-team All-District (2004-05, first-team All-District (2006-07), All-North Suncoast (2006-07). He was also named to the 2004 Virginia ODP State team, U-15 Virginia State Cup Finalist (Beach FC Outlaws), 2004 U-15 Champions of Virginia Club Champions League (Beach FC Outlaws). In 2005 he was a U-16 Virginia State Cup Finalist (Beach FC Outlaws, names to the U-16 Champions of Virginia Club Champions League (Beach FC Outlaws), the Virginia ODP State team, the Virginia ODP European Tournament team, and the U-17 Champions of Club Directors League (Clearwater Chargers). He was captain of the 2006 U-17 Florida State Cup Champions (Clearwater Chargers).
